Stormsail Clan

The Stormsail Clan (Stam Stormsejl in Gardic) is one of the Five Great Clans of Frysgard. As of 10110 DC, they are the second most influential of the clans of the Gardic Civilization due to their status as colonial collaborators. They are led by Alda Stormsail, the captain of the Stormsail Fleet's flagship The Great White One.

History

The Stormsail Clan is one of only two of the Great Clans who predate Fenrir's exodus, the other being the Whitemane Clan. They owned a strip of modestly arable land on the northwestern coast of modern-day Kyaww-catar and were the only faction allied with Fenrir's kingdom who owned ships suitable for the journey. They took it upon themselves to transport those who could not make the journey across Fenrir's ice bridge on foot, and followed along with the walkers as they made their journey across the Wintersea. During the parceling out of land in Frysgard among the clan, the Stormsails would only accept coastal lands, citing the importance of the clan's naval traditions as their reasoning for why they should be granted a large segment of the eastern part of the Sydstrand Coastline.

The Stormsails have historically aligned themselves with innovators and harbingers of change in Frysgard, and as such, threw their lot in with Mithrosi colonists ever since the first ship from there landed on the Sydstrand Coast.

Reputation

The Stormsails are unashamed of their affiliation with Mithrosi colonists, and since the Mithrosi schism, their reputation has been further denigrated by anti-colonists to that of "Coalition bootlickers". This has made them seem untrustworthy to other Nordguard member clans, especially to those of the clans who openly oppose the Coalition, such as the Irontooth and Shatterhammer clans.

Membership

The Stormsails stand out from the other Great Clans in yet another way, in that they allow individuals of certain non-native races to become full members. These would be night Fenrans, aquatic dracons, and Avian Collectors and Fishers, each of which were considered by the clan leadership at the time to have qualities that would benefit the Stormsails in terms of both adaptability and further strengthening of what was already their greatest strengths. As such, these races make up a large enough portion of the clan as of currently, that they have a representative each in the clan's council of elders.
