Avian
Avians are a bird-like humanoid species originating from the landmass that is now split up into the Thousand Eyries, but they can be found all over Zairis.
Biology
Avians are distinguished by their feathered body, wings, and beak, all of which are unique features among the civilized peoples. All grown avians are capable of flight, except in cases of injury or disability.
Subraces
Avian Blaze
The avian Blazes are distinctively red-and-orange-plumed members of the avian race who carry themselves elegantly on long, spindly legs. They have hooked beaks similar to birds of prey, and a crest of large feathers protruding from the back of their heads. In the avian caste system, the Blazes populate the uppermost classes, including politicians and the priesthood. Outside avian-majority societies, many Blazes pursue a career in auratic studies.
Avian Collector
Avian Collectors are black-plumed avians with a shady disposition and a distinctive tone of voice common to their kind. In the avian caste system, the Collectors fill the merchant niche, and many find success outside avian-majority societies in finance-focused careers, law, or on the fringes of lawful society.
Avian Fisher
Avian Fishers form the commoner class of avian societies, traditionally being at at home on those islands of the Thousand Eyries that are closest to the sea (and thus the lowest), which gives them their iconic role and title.
Avian Sentinel
The Avian Sentinels are a race of avians that bear a strong resemblance of birds of prey such as hawks and eagles. As such, their role in avian societies has traditionally been that of combatants, serving as guards or soldiers for avian organizations.
History
The avians as a whole were the creation and chosen people of Ardothun. Very little information survives from before the shattering of the land that is now the Thousand Eyries, but since Ardothun's demise, many avians have converted to the worship of either one of the surviving Primordials, or Phoenix.
