Thousand Eyries

The Thousand Eyries (also commonly referred to as The Skylands) are a collection of floating rock 'islands' of various sizes, suspended in the air above the ocean far west of Mithros and the Aquantean Archipelago. They are what remains of the ancestral homeland of the Avians and most of them are inhabited near exclusively by them. The highest up islands are collectlively referred to as the Empyrea region.

The history of what this place was before it became the Thousand Eyries is mostly lost, but the one surviving myth is that of Ardothun, the Primordial Deity of the Sky, patron of the Avian peoples, exerting his divine power on the land as it underwent a cataclysmic event to suspend various shards of it in the sky. The results of this act remain in effect, even after Ardothun's demise.
