Mithros

Mithros (Old Draconic for royal silver) is a continent within the temperate belt of Zairis. It is bordered to the north by the Wintersea, which separates it from Frysgard, to the east by the Aurora Ocean, separating it from Dunieth, and on the south and the west by the Aquantean Ocean. It is the place of origin of all dragonkin.

Geography

Mithros is divided into regions as follows:

The Ascuphre Mountains are a range of mountains running down the center of Mithros, giving it a clear division between its east and west regions

Blackwood is the largest forest on the continent, and makes up over half of the east section of Mithros.

The Dragontail Peninsula is situated on the southwestern corner of the region.

The Gray Marsh is the second of the two regions east of the Ascuphre Mountains, and is the southernmost of all the regions of Mithros.

The Northranges consist of plains adjacent to most of the north coast of Mithros ranging from Dragontail Peninsula in the southwest and the Ascuphre Mountains in the northeast.

Smoke Bay bridges the gap between Dragontail Peninsula in the southwest and the Ascuphre Mountains in the northeast.

Viridian Vale is the centermost region of Mithros, sandwiched in between the Ascuphre Mountains, the Northranges, and Smoke Bay.

History

Primordial Era

The Myth of Creation states that Mithros was the first of Zairis' continents to be formed, and as such, it was also the first place to host the life created by Iris, the Primordial deity charged with the fostering of life on the planet. To the end of populating it, Iris created the Miacids, declared them as her chosen people, and appointed them as stewards of the land, ending the Primordial Era and ushering in the era of mortals.

Pre-Draconic Era

The Miacids propagated themselves to each corner of the continent and built great kingdoms and empires, culminating with the Vul Empire, the first instance of the entire continent unified under a single banner, and the first truly great seat of mortal power in the world. In this era, the continent was known under the name of Aen-zta, or 'First-ground' in the Miacid Common Tongue.

Draconic Era

It had been millennia since the splintering of the Vul Empire into hundreds of petty kingdom, and with the arrival of dragons onto the playing field, things were ripe to be shaken up, setting the stage for one of the bloodiest periods in the history of Zairis. The dragons wasted no time in laying waste to the worst defended kingdoms of the vulpines, and staked their own claims on key locations on the continent. The already volatile state of the continent was then further shaken up with the emergence of dracons, a race of humanoid slaves of the monstrous dragon invaders, who ended up rebelling against their masters and striking out on their own, further encroaching upon the tenous holds the remaining vulpine kingdoms had on the continent.

Mithril Era

While the dragons had been successfully driven out of most previously vulpine-controlled lands, changing their tactics to more clandestine effort, the mark they had left on Mithros was undeniable, especially since their progeny, the dracons, had firmly established themselves as the new powers that be. This showed itself in the emergence of the Free Dracon States as the dominant force of the continent in this era.
