Blackwood

Blackwood is a large forested region that covers a significant portion of the eastern part of Mithros. It is bounded by the Gray Marsh to the south and the Ascuphre Mountains to the west. Due to an invasion from the Underdeep in the Mithril Era, most of it was engulfed in demonic miasma, which has rendered it highly hostile to many forms of life.

Faction presence

Due to its general inhospitality, most of Blackwood is virtually uncontested. A large portion is dominated by the Chiropteran Archduchy since the Chiropterans' reawakening in 10088 DC, aside from Mortshire, which is under Coalition control but governed autonomously.

Otherwise, many of the small settlements in the region are completely self governed and remain unclaimed by any of the major Mithrosi factions - the best known example of such a settlement is the town of Lavender Glade.

In addition, the Blackwood Circle is active all over the region, but congregates in the wilds surrounding the site of the Blackened Henge in the heart of the forest.

Flora and fauna

Much of the Blackwood region's flora and fauna is adapted to the harsh conditions brought on by the demonic miasma it was once engulfed in, and among them are several unique species not found anywhere else in Zairis. Such species include dreamcrawlers and various Darkness-aligned tree species.
