Nordguard

The Nordguard is an alliance of Fenran, vulpine, and kobold clans in Frysgard. Its purpose is to safeguard the interests of the people of the Gardic Civilization and present an unified front to foreign powers. It is currently based in Strandhelm, the largest settlement in Frysgard, and led by High Chief Garun of the Whitemane Clan.

Member Clans

Membership in the Nordguard is based on clan affiliation - if one is a member of a clan that itself is a member of the Nordguard, one is also considered a member of the Nordguard. The leadership and other key roles of the Nordguard rotate between the leaders of each of the Five Great Clans.

Great Clans: Frostclaw Clan | Irontooth Clan | Shatterhammer Clan | Stormsail Clan | Whitemane Clan
Other Clans: Bladefury Clan | Drifttail Clan | Floejumper Clan | Grimeyes Clan | Iceclimber Clan | Silverfang Clan | Stoutshield Clan | Wyrm-Foe Clan

Leadership

The leaders of each clan also take a leading role within an aspect of the Gardic Civilization.

High Chief

The High Chief of the Nordguard is the ultimate arbiter of every decision the Nordguard faces. The current High Chief of the Nordguard is Garun Whitemane.

High Mystic

The High Mystic of the Nordguard is the High Chief's advisor on matters pertaining to the arcane, and may in some cases even overrule them. The position is most often held by the head of the Frostclaw Clan due to vulpines' significantly greater proclivity towards the Auratic Studies than the Fenrans'. The current High Mystic of the Nordguard is Drifa Frostclaw.

Warmaster

The Nordguard Warmaser's duty is the raising and management of the Nordguard's many warbands. The current Nordguard Warmaster is Brand Irontooth.

Archpriest of Fenrir

The Archpriest of Fenrir is the leader of the Fenran Faith. The current Archpriest of Fenrir is Gunnar Shatterhammer.

Master of the Coin

The Nordguard's Master of the Coin is the chief treasurer of the organization. The role is nominally held by Alda Stormsail, but as of 10109 DC, she has delegated the role to her younger brother Aegr Stormsail, drawing criticism from the other clans for it.

History

Formation

The story goes that prior to his departure from the realm of Zairis in 7440 DC, Fenrir summoned the leaders of the Five Great Clans as well as several of his demigod descendants, outlined his plan of departing the realm and proposed the formation of an alliance of clans to protect Frysgard from hostile outside forces in his absence. Most agreed that an alliance would be the best way of safeguarding Frysgard, though they would be reluctant to see Fenrir leave.

The first High Chief of the unified clan alliance that came to eventually be called the Nordguard was one Jorek of the Shatterhammer Clan.

Military

As the Nordguard are an organization of a colonized people, they are not allowed to maintain a proper standing army. Instead, their military forces are organized into semi-autonomous warbands, groups of warriors roughly equivalent in size to a large platoon of Royalist soldiers. They can serve in a variety of roles, the most common of which are that of town guards, road patrols, and strike units for rooting out Bloodmaw Clan marauders.
