Drakeport

Drakeport is a city on the Dragontail Peninsula in Mithros. It houses the current headquarters of the Royalist Alliance of Mithros and functions also as the seat of the Monarch of Mithros. With 7.6 million inhabitants, it is the second most populous city in Mithros, second only to Cania, and just ahead of Whitehaven and Masea, which hold the 3rd and 4th spots, respectively.

Organization

Drakeport is divided into five districts, each named for a kind of drake.

The Tower District encompasses the Ducal Palace of Drakeport, currently serving as the residence of Siria Drech II, and its immediate surroundings, elevated above the rest of the city.

The Tortoise District forms the city center around the Tower District and, among other things, houses the headquarters of the RAM.

The Mantle and Serpent Districts are the main residential districts on the northwest and south sides of the city, respectively.

The Whale District comprises the coastal portion of the city, including the harbor proper. A significant portion of its harbor space is dedicated to the operations of the Colonial And Trading Authority Network with colonial assets in the Aquantean Archipelago and beyond.

History

Foundation

Drakeport was founded in 7221 DC by Ignaros Ressh, the Duke of Medellus, who had grown tired of the city's proximity to its mining operations, and resolved to move the seat of his holdings. It was constructed with the approval of King Vedran Lyon II with the express purpose to server as a major shipyard for the Kingdom of Mithros' navy, and was named for the navy's infamous Flamedrake Frigates.

Abolitionist movement and slave riots

In 10060, the Movement for the Abolition of Kobold Exploitation (also known as 'MAKE', started gaining popularity with the lower and middle classes of Drakeport. The inciting incident was the act of a high ranking member of the Coalition of Mithrosi Trade Associations brutalizing and sexually abusing a kobold slave was caught on film and circulated in media all over Mithros, with mass outrage ensuing. Following several public protests organized by Movement members, an epidemic of slave escapes was incited by Movement members and sympathizers, and in the wake of these, the situation blossomed into a full scale riot of a then-unheard-of scale in the city. This culminated with similar riots in different settlements in Mithros until the practice was formally abolished and outlawed in 10063.
