Cania

Cania is the capital of the Coalition-controlled Mithrosi territory and the former capital of the Kingdom of Mithros. It is also the most populous city in Zairis, with a population of approximately 6 million. Standing at the delta of Sylava River, it has been a major settlement for millennia, its history stretching back to the founding of the first Dracon-led petty kingdoms.

Despite its current status post-Coalition coup of Cania as a contested territory between the Coalition, the Royalist Alliance of Mithros, and the Singular Order, Cania remains a leading cultural center in the world, with armed conflict being contained to several fringe portions of its metropolitan area.

Demographics

As the largest city in Zairis, it is home to nearly every species of civilized peoples, but the largest groups represented are dracons and humans making up 34% (of which approximately two thirds are white dracons) and 29% of the city's population, respectively.

Infrastructure

The city is divided into four portions, of which three are under the direct control of a contesting faction, informally referred to by Cania's inhabitants as quarters. These are then further divided into districts, which are the official administrative subsections of the city. Each of the three quarters that are specifically aligned to a faction is walled off where it meets a quarter controlled by a rival faction, and travel between quarters is semi-restricted, with permits being issued for civilians who have to be approved by both of the factions whose wall is being crossed.

Districts under the Coalition

Central Cania

Central Cania is Cania's premier residential and shopping district in the Coalition controlled quarter.

Commercial District

The Commercial District is where the Coalition centralizes its operations - the Cania Admin Department headquarters are located there as well as the head offices of many of the Coalition's subsidiaries.

Its most recent major landmark is the Radiant Energy Stadium, having finished construction in 10108 DC. It is situated by the Sylava riverbank in the Commercial District, and seats 20,000 spectators. It was named and sponsored by Radiant Energy. Its opening ceremony featured prominent pop idol group LUCKY*LE4F as its main event.

It is also famous for its entertainment, nightlife, and sex work hub neighborhood, Korado Heights, which was the subject of the highly publicized and infamous documentary Dreams of Korado: An Exposé, which at the time of its release in 10107, provided a shockingly detailed view of the seedy underbelly of the district's relatively clean and high-class image.

Docks East

Docks East are the Coalition's harbor hub.

Districts under the Royalist Alliance

Docks West

Docks West, removed from its Coalition-controlled counterpart in the east, houses the Royalists' harbor operations in the city.

Old Cania/Manor District

Old Cania/Manor District is the unified district of two zones that were hit hard by the coup and were subsequently merged because of how little infrastructure between the two survived. Notably, the location of the RAM headquarters as well as Cania Palace.

Temple District

The Temple District's main feature is the Plaza of Primordials, a city square surrounded by the largest temples devoted to the Primordial Faith in the city.

Districts under the Singular Order

Hallow Hill

Hallow Hill is a district on the southwest side of Cania best known for the hill it's named after, which is the side of the fortified cathedral of the same name that serves as the Order's headquarters in Cania.

Outer Cania (unaligned districts)

Outer Cania Kobold Exclusivity Zone

The Outer Cania Kobold Exclusivity Zone is an unofficially formed slum district on the outskirts of Cania that is home to the Zircon Clan of rock kobolds, though kobolds of other subraces and clans are allowed to settle as well.

History

Initial settlement

The delta was initially settled in the Draconic Era by a group of dracons who had followed the Sylava River after escaping from their master's lair in the Ascuphre Mountains. The settlement eventually grew into the township that would declare itself the Kingdom of Sylava, ruled by House Lyon, the direct descendants of Lyon, the leader of the escapees.
