Drake

Drakes are a diverse group of dragonkin creatures with a wide variety of physical and mental characteristics.

Greater drake

Greater drakes are creatures often mistaken for true dragons in modern times due to the two species' striking similarities. Greater drakes come in the same varieties as true dragons, but are slightly smaller and merely of animal-like intellect. Goods claimed to be made from "dragon hide" are often in actuality made out of the hide of greater drakes, as using the remains of a true dragon for this purpose has historically invited severe retribution from a slain dragon's kin, upon slayer, maker, and wearer alike.


Tower drake

Tower drakes are small, intelligent drakes, which are often utilized as familiars by wizards, drawing their name from their masters' typical lodgings.


Wingless Drake

Wingless drakes come in a wider range of varieties than their greater cousins, ranging in size from roughly the size of a horse, down to smaller dog breeds. In addition, some breeds have fur instead of the usual scales, much like kobolds.

Wild breeds

Cave drake

Not to be confused with mountain drakes, cave drakes are sturdily built and stony-scaled drakes common to the underground of the Ascuphre Mountains, Kyaww-catar, and Nordheim Mountains regions.

Mantle drake

Mantle drakes are burrowing worm-like drakes with two front limbs and none in the rear, who make their home deepest underground of all known species. Their Aura alwasy has the Earth and Fire alignments, and some excptional specimens may also possess a third element, which is always either Darkness or Metal.

Mountain drake

Not to be confused with cave drakes, mountain drakes are fur-coated, agile creatures, that are typically found near the tallest peaks of mountainous regions.

Serpent drake

Serpent drakes are long, sinuous creatures, that come in two major varieties - Aquatic and Arboreal, which make their home in the oceans and lakes, and warm climate forests of Zairis, respectively.

Tortoise drake

Tortoise drakes are reminiscent of their namesake - slow moving creatures that wear an armored shell on their torso. Famed among animal handlers for their exceptionally belligerent nature, when they decide to interact with their surroundings at all. Tortoise drakes in captivity spend most of their time with their head and limbs withdrawn into their shells.

Whale drake

Whale drakes are huge aquatic wingless drakes, and the only breed whose average size exceeds that of true dragons.

Domesticated breeds

Domesticated breeds of wingless drakes come in several categories, among which are hunting drakes, pet drakes, riding drakes, and working drakes.


Wyvern

Wyverns are a type of drake commonly mistaken for dragons or greater drakes, but their distinctive trait is that they only have two legs and a pair of wings as opposed to their four-legged cousins. The best known variety are called thunderkites, and are said to be manifestations of Ardothun's divine essence that didn't form into one of his Shards or dissipate into ethereality.
