Divine essence

Divine essence is the metaphysical material of which deities are made out of and is that which makes the divine divine. It is primarily the purview of deities to possess it, but mortals or even inanimate objects are capable of holding it provided that they have somehow come into possession of it. Mortals who possess enough of it can be classified as demigods, and inanimate objects possessing it are likely to be or become legendary artifacts in some capability.

It has a nebulous relationship to Aura, and is theorized to be an ultra-compressed form of it, which would explain the tremendous natural auratic powers of fringe entities believed to possess some modicum of divine essence, such as dragons.
