Ruby

Ruby is a city in the Ka'aras Sovereignty, named for the gem that has been mined in massive quantities out of the mines it is built by. It is also the center of the financial sector of the Sovereignty.

Population

Of its 2 million inhabitants, the dominant ethnicity are the sand vulpines descended from the people who settled the region. Other species found in significant number are felines of most types, rock kobolds, and Avian Blazes.

Ruby is the richest city in Zairis per capita.

Government

The city is run by a democratically elected city council, of which most members belong to the rich merchant families who own the largest businesses in Ruby.

Guilds

The most prominent guild presence in the city is the Ruby Mining Guild, which owns by far the largest share of all the city's mines, though the Coalition and the Tourmaline Clan have been muscling in on the sector, the former by its global network of influence, and the latter by renting out its powerful labor force to local non-Guild mining companies.

Ruby is built on the mining of its namesake, and it remains the city's most important resource and source of wealth.

Power

Ruby is in control of Ruby Dam, the largest embankment dam in all of Zairis, which is a few kilometres downstream of the city's position by the Rhuxai River. It provides hydropower to Ruby itself, as well as the entirety of the rest of the settlements by the Rhuxai. In addition, its flood control mechanism is used to maintain ideal conditions for agriculture along the Rhuxai's banks.

Grand Rubene Prayer House of the Solar Church

The Solar Church maintains its primary place of worship in Ruby. It is, as of 10110 DC, the second largest temple of kami worship in Zairis, second only to the Pan-Kami Grand Temple in Chiwu-zhi, and the largest dedicated to a single Kami.

Its main prayer hall is adorned with the Firebird Ruby Idol, an 8 foot tall statue depicting Phoenix, carved out of a solid block of pure ruby, the largest ever found of its kind, which was extracted from the mines of Ruby in 9890 DC, purchased jointly by the Solar Church and the Firebird Cult, and carved into its current shape over the course of the next decade, with it being formally unveiled at the closing ceremony of the annual Skyfire Festival at 01 Fire, 9901.
