Ka'aras

The region known as Ka'aras is part of Dunieth that encompasses an arid climate comprised mostly of desert and desert-adjacent biomes. The entirety of its territory is controlled by the Ka'aras Sovereignty, a nation-state named for the region that has controlled it since the end of the Mithril Era. It is the ancestral homeland of sand vulpines.

Name

The name Ka'aras is a shortened form of the Miacid Common Tongue name Kaer Aras, meaning 'Very Dry'.

Landmarks

Lake of Graves

The Lake of Graves is a desolate landmark near the border to the Underdeep Blightlands that appears to be a dried-up lake filled with the bones of various animals and persons. The source of this phenomenon is unknown but historical records indicate that the amount of remains filling the lake has steadily increased over the centuries.

Ska-rui Valley

Ska-rui-Valley is the site of the city of Ska-rui that has been a major population center in the region since it was first settled, and has served as a capital for many nations until the fall of the Skar Empire, after which the capital of its successor state, the Ka'aras Sovereignty, was established to be Ka'aras City instead. As of 10110 DC, large swathes of the valley have been devoted to archaeological study of pre-Skar Empire artifacts that have been unearthed in the area.

Summit of Horns

The Summit of Horns is a place of worship dedicated to Qa Sol, the Golden Scourge of the Sands, a memetic deity who is patron to various nomadic tribes who roam the Ka'aran desert.

People

Ka'aras is home to several population groups of note, of various origins. Most numerous among them are the two major population groups descended from the Vul Expeditionary Force who settled the Ka'aras Delta in the Pre-Draconic Era - the settled peoples of what is now the modern Ka'aras Sovereignty, and the Arais Nomads, a collective of splinter groups of the expeditionary force who ventured out into the desert instead of staking a claim by the Rhuxai's banks. Other groups of note include the X'rk't, a species of anthropod-like humanoids, who came out on the losing side in conflicts with the Vul settlers and are forced to live out in the desert, crossing paths with the nomads semi-frequently.
