Ten Clouds Cult

The Ten Clouds Cult is an offshoot of the Primordial Faith that is classified as heretical by its authorities. They are self-proclaimed followers of the deceased Primordial Ardothun.

Agenda

Their stated goal, according to their manifesto, is to resurrect Ardothun by killing his Shards and recombining their divine essence. In addition, they have performed extremist acts against members of the dragonkin species, citing their nature as descendants of the Shards of Ardothun being an affront to his divinity.

History

Origins

The foundation of the Ten Clouds Cult remains shrouded in mystery, but is theorized to have originated from the remnants of a community of avian worshipers in the wake of Ardothun's demise. The first group on record to identify themselves with the Ten Clouds moniker was a group of adventurers that existed around 600 DC in Mithros, who made it their business to hunt down and kill any dragon whose existence they got wind of. As they learned of more dragons whose power exceeded that of their means of fighting them, they settled down near the community that would eventually build the town of Seacliff and started recruiting from the local populace, passerby sellswords and others in order to form the first known knightly order of dragonslayers.

The first dracons who escaped their masters' lairs and found civilization were received harshly by these dragonslaying orders, who proclaimed them to be abominations and exterminated them whenever they were found. As tribal communities of these two-legs dragonkin thrived in the untamed wilds, the dragonslayer orders would organize great hunts sponsored by the petty kingdoms near the Ascuphre Mountains. However, with the emergence of the Free Dracon States around 1300 to directly challenge the aforementioned kingdoms, the dragonslayer orders were absorbed into the ranks of these petty kingdoms' militaries, and the Ten Clouds moniker would not be used for a few millenia after.

Slaying of Sengiel

Around 7000 DC, Sengiel, the Gold Shard of Ardothun, disappeared and was never heard from again. A few years later, new temples to Ardothun started appearing in major population centres and other locations of note, with its priests and attendants using symbols associated with the Ten Clouds in both temple decor and their own garb. The leadership of these temples claimed to anyone willing to listen that the Ten Clouds had returned, claimed Sengiel's remains to their possession, and would be using them as the base from which Ardothun would be resurrected.

The Primordial Faith Authority as well as Dragonflight representatives reacted harshly to the reappearance of the Ten Clouds, and immediately launched a campaign to destroy every non-historical temple to Ardothun they could find. In particular, the Gold Dragonflight spared no time or expense in hunting down and interrogating any known cultist they could capture alive, in hopes of reclaiming Sengiel's remains.

Increasing influence

As of the 10100s, the cult has been growing in mainstream acceptance in the Thousand Eyries, with their following growing to a number large enough to draw attention from the Firebird Cult, the largest religious group in the Eyries, with which they are locked into a power struggle as of 10110 DC.
