Kyaww-fel

The Kyaww-fel were the predecessors to the crag feline population of modern-day Kyaww-catar. The term is most often used to specifically refer to the confederation of nomadic clans that wandered the lowland steppes of the northern half of Dunieth between the initial settling of Dunieth by the Followers of Fel until being pushed north into the mountains by the emerging Kingdom of Leograu.

History

When the Followers of Fel arrived in Dunieth, they would soon form a number of splinter groups that went their separate ways, of which the Kyaww-fel were one such group. Opting to travel to the north, the Kyaww-fel would see themselves split further into family groupings that eventually became clans. These clans stayed apart for the most part, only having planned meetings on a semi-regular basis at a landmark central to the region known as Kra-gwyra.

About a century before the advent of the Draconic Era, the nascent Kingdom of Leograu expanded into the edges of the Kyaww-fel territory to the south, which displaced some of the closer roaming clans, pushing them north, and in turn, pushing the lowlander Loup who had settled at the roots of the Kyaww-catar mountains into the mountains themselves. They gradually adapted a more sedentary lifestyle as traveling through the valleys nestled in between the tall, inhospitable mountain ranges was much harder than traversing the steppes. This culminated in displacing all the Loup who had not fled to the east and founded Old Nethron, prompting them to make a second exodus across the Wintersea, landing in Frysgard, creating the distinct Gardic Civilization and changing the species' name to Fenrans, after their leader who ascended to godhood in the process.

While the clans had formed their own petty kingdoms within the mountains after having taken the land for themselves, they eventually united to form the Kyaww-catar Kingdom.

Culture

Legacy

Much of the history and culture of the Kyaww-fel has been preserved by oral tradition that was only brought to written form when they converted to a sedentary society in the north, but before that, the only written records known to have been made by the Kyaww-fel are log poles inscribed with the annals of meetings past, recording news from the past pre-meeting periods, resolutions of disputes, updates on the legal code, and more, planted on the grounds surrounding Kra-gwyra.

The Kyaww steppe drake, a breed of wingless drake used for riding, is named for the Kyaww-fel, who used them as their primary mount beast.
