Neodraconic

Neodraconic is a language in the Primordial Speech family that is directly descended from Old Draconic, with which it shares an identical orthography. It is an official language in most of Mithros, but is also widely spoken elsewhere in Zairis.

History

Origins

Neodraconic originated in the late Mithril Era, when the cultural consortium of the Free Dracon States resolved to codify a new writing system for Old Draconic that would be easier to read as well as faster and easier to carve into printing blocks following the invention of the printing press. In the aftermath of that, the Sylavan dialect of Old Draconic, rather far removed from the draconic standard, had some grammatical rules altered, and was declared to be its own language, having picked up considerable influence from the languages of neighboring non-dracon kingdoms. This is believed to be the first known government-supported linguistic prescriptivism movement in Zairis.
